Zwölberich have a small parcel of the Dornfelder vines that were created in 1955 by crossing the Helfensteiner and Heroldrebe vines, planted enormously successfully through the 1980s and 1990s.
Under Hartmut's management, the Dornfelder vines yield deep-red coloured grapes with nicely balanced acidity. Zwölberich grows these grapes with a low-yield concentration on quality. Barrique ageing delivers subtle oak tones over the top of a silky, floral wine with a massive strawberry attack, followed by a gentle sweetness and rich flavours of cherry and blackberry. Incredibly seductive and moreish.
