The Vaquers first produced this 100% Carignan cuvée in 1999. Although often overlooked amongst Roussillon's grape varieties, this delivers - in Frédérique’s opinion - the very best expression of the Aspres terroir.
This wine is produced from parcels of vines in the middle of the characteristic garrigue (literally 'scrubland') and from clay soils that counteract the effects of wind and sun. Frédérique makes wine of great freshness that keeps the depth of the clay but delivers hints of rich blackcurrant and sprightly acidity on the palate, with very fine tannins.
With typically judicious use of oak (for just 20% of the cuvée), Frédérique has added an extra dimension to this pure and elegant wine with real depth and length, while retaining its gloriously fruity freshness.
